Sister Martha

“Lake Area Arts Group (L.A.A.G.) promotes visual arts in the Grand Lake Area to inspire all people to create, nurture, and appreciate the arts.”

Sister Martha Bertke, representing the arts group, spoke at a recent Celina Kiwanis meeting. A number of enthusiastic volunteers created L.A.A.G.  in 2014. The group meets at 6:00 the second Monday of the month at the Mercer County District Library. Artists display their work and discuss related topics. Rather than having a board of directors, the organization chose to have a planning committee which is currently chaired by Ralph Stuckman.

Some of L.A.A.G.’s other activities include periodic “Meet the Artist” gatherings on Friday evenings and student workshops with the artist on the following Saturday. The arts group selects local artists to show their works at the seven area libraries, one library per month. Works are displayed and often available for sale at several area restaurants. In coordination with the group,  Arts Place in St Marys also displays the works of local artists. L.A.A.G. had a booth at the county fair and an entry in the Rockford Community Days parade.

Group members worked with the St. Charles Senior Living Center to present Artistry Under the Dome. For more information about the Lake Area Arts Group, like them on Facebook or find them at
