(1-16-19) The Mercer County District Library will hosting an author program with Sharon Short, Literary Life columnist for the Dayton Daily News, Tuesday, January 29 at 6:00 p.m. here at the library. Using the name Jess Montgomery, she has now begun writing the Kinship Historical Mysteries. The first book in the series, which came out this month, is called “The Widows.” This book is about two women whose lives collide when the man they both love is murdered. She will be discussing her writing, giving a reading, and having a short question and answer period.
Sharon Short’s newspaper column focuses on the literary life, authors and events in Dayton, Ohio. She is also Director of the Antioch Writers’ Workshop at University of Dayton; and is an adjunct mentor in the Seton Hill University Low-Residency Writing Popular Fiction M.F.A. program. Based on the chapters of “The Widows” before publication, she received awards for the novel. These included the Montgomery County (Ohio) Arts & Cultural District (MCAD) Artist Opportunity Grant (2018); the Individual Excellence Award (2016) in Literary Arts from Ohio Arts Council, and the John E. Nance Writer in Residence at Thurber House (Columbus, Ohio) in 2014.
She lives with her high school sweetheart and husband of thirty plus years in southwestern Ohio. They have two adult daughters. One is in the military and one is a teaching naturalist in the western United States.
