Hospice is not a place but is high-quality care that enables patients and families to focus on living as fully as possible despite a life-limiting illness. Grand Lake Hospice offers this compassionate approach to care, ensuring dignity, choice, and quality of life. The staff strive to meet the patient’s emotional, spiritual and family needs, and provide family support like respite care and bereavement counseling.
The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) states that every year more than 1.5 million Americans live with life-limiting illness, and that their families received care from a hospice program in one of many communities throughout the United States. Hospice care is provided for any individual who has any type of terminal illness that no longer responds to curative treatment and when it is believed that they have a life expectancy of 6 months or less.
Grand Lake Hospice, the community’s local hospice, ensures a coordinated and patient-led approach to care, protecting patient choice and access to individualized services based on their unique care needs and wishes. Patient and family care is provided by your physician, a medical director, skilled nursing, social services, pastoral counseling, hospice aide, massage therapy, music therapy, pharmacy consulting, and volunteer support. Other meaningful support services include Heart Beat music therapy, life review recordings, bereavement support groups, a yearly memorial service, the memory garden, the Healing Memories Library, Stargazer Therapy, and use of the Comfort Suite at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital.
The Centers of Medicare and Medicaid’s Hospice Compare, identifies that Grand Lake Hospice exceeds all national scores relating to Quality of Care, Managing Pain and Treating Symptoms, and Family Experience of Care.
