(7-10-18) Strong winds caused a large tree to fall on a passing pickup truck on the 300 block of West Line Street in Geneva, Indiana at around 3pm this afternoon killing the two people in the truck. The Geneva town marshal Robert Johnson said that officers arrived to find Martha R.B. Hilty (36) and Norman D. McCollum (77) inside the truck had both been killed.

Funeral Arrangements-Martha R.B. Hilty

Viewing will be held at Reuben Hilty’s Residence 240 W. 1125 S. Geneva on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM and from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM at Reuben Hilty’s Residence on Friday, July 13, 2018. Funeral Services will also be held at Reuben Hilty’s Residence at 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 14, 2018 with Bishop Dan V. Shetler officiating. Burial will follow in the Bearcreek Cemetery in Adams County, IN.

Arrangements are being handled by Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.

Martha R.B. Hilty, 36, of Geneva, IN, died at 3:10 PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 in Geneva from a tree falling on her passing pick-up truck as she was traveling down West Line Street. She was born on Tuesday, April 27, 1982, in Adams County, IN to Reuben & Bertha (Schwartz) Hilty. Martha attended South Adams schools. She was a former Amish school teacher, caretaker and CNA at Swiss Village and Chalet Village both in Berne. Martha was a member of the Old Order Amish.

Norman D. McCollum, 76, of Geneva, IN, passed away at 3:51 PM on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 due to a tree falling on his truck as he was traveling down West Line St. in Geneva. He was born on July 19, 1941 in Decatur, IN. Norman graduated from Geneva High School. He formerly worked for 39 years at Decatur Casting. He enjoyed fishing and tractors.

He was preceded in death by his: Father – James McCollum, Mother – Lela Isca (Pace) McCollum, Wife – Carol (Foreman) McCollum, who passed away in 1977 and Brother – Arthur McCollum.
