(5-2-18) More than 300 guests attended this year’s 10th annual Gala event benefiting Grand Lake Hospice on April 21, at Romer’s Entertainment & Catering Facility in Celina. This year’s Gala, The Emerald Ball, was made possible by four-time Presenting Sponsor 3Rivers Federal Credit Union and included a whimsical and elegant Wizard of Oz type of experience.
Guests arrived at 5:00 pm, stepped onto the yellow brick road and entered The Emerald City where a ballroom of tables were elegantly decorated in green and gold and adorned with candlelight and dozens of beautiful white roses. Jack Garrett and the Syndicate were there and provided music to entertain our guests. Romer’s Catering provided an array of hors d’ oeuvres, served dinner to each guest then completed the dining experience with a beautiful presentation of specialty desserts.
Dr. Robert Keighley and Dr. Lance Bryant of St. Marys Surgical Associates were this year’s Enchanted Forest Sponsor. Through their generosity, guests were given the opportunity to travel down the yellow brick road, through the Enchanted Forest to the field of poppies. It was there that Premier Casino Events staff assisted guests as they played casino games trying to improve their chances to win one of five $100 bills that were given away at the end of the evening.
A new addition to this year’s Gala was the 2018 Car Raffle for a chance to win a NEW 2018 Dodge Challenger from St. Marys Chrysler. A drawing was held at the end of the Gala and the winning ticket belonged to Michael Huggler from Dillsburg, Pennsylvania.
Due to the generosity of many businesses and individuals, guests were able to bid on more than 98 items through our Live and Silent Auctions. Auctioneer, Frank Arling auctioned a 14K white gold emerald and diamond pendant from Jones Jeweler; an exclusive dining experience with extras for 15 at the Jameson Manor from Jeff & Linda Davis of Fleet Safety Services; a trip to Norris Lake from Mark & Jill Oldiges; a trip to Orlando with four Disney passes from The People’s Bank Co. and Dave and Linda Vogel; a fishing trip from Russ Bailey; a trip to Chicago with tickets to Broadway’s Hamilton from Robert Grimes; a trip to Nashville on July 3-4; an autographed 2014 National Championship autographed football from Albert Sporting Goods; an advertising package from WCSM; a YMCA membership; a Summer Cooler Package from Innovative Office, Moran’s Refrigeration and Rick & Linda Haines; and reservations for eight with transportation to the 2019 Gala with champagne and stemware from the JTD Hospital Foundation Board, the JTDMH Hospital Board, and Scott & Tanya Temple.

Funds raised from this event are used to provide quality hospice care and services to patients and families beyond what Medicare and commercial insurances will cover. Due to your support Grand Lake Hospice is able to provide Pastoral Counseling, the Healing Memories Bereavement Support program, a Massage Therapist, a Volunteer Coordinator, a Music Therapist, Stargazer Therapy, and the Comfort Suite. These funds also ensure that anyone who qualifies for this specialized care can receive it, regardless of their ability to pay.
