ST. MARY’S – Tuesday, January 9, 2018 – Patrick McGowan, current Mayor and former City Council Member of St. Mary’s declared his candidacy for the Auglaize County Commission today. Mr. McGowan turned in 100 signatures on candidacy petitions for County Commission on Friday morning.
“I am excited to announce my candidacy for the County Commission in the top small county in Ohio. During my term as Mayor, I gained an understanding of the complexities of city government and believe that when combined with my business experience I can help move Auglaize County forward.
“In my candidacy, I see helpful and positive roles for Auglaize County.
Most importantly, the primary role for County Commission should be to be an advocate for the people of the entire County. I believe that we must stand shoulder to shoulder with all elected officials to address some of our most pressing issues.
There are many issues that will come before us in the next four years. First and foremost, we must be a vital and active communications link between all communities and townships. We must look at retaining young people to stay or return to Auglaize County after graduation.
“As a county commissioner, I can be a valued partner, by taking advantage of my experience, skills and perspectives, gained from my 40 years of being of working all over the United States.
“The issues before us continue to be balancing fiscal responsibility with sound judgment. I look forward to the opportunity to provide creative and efficient ways to continue to keep Auglaize County strong in light of continued decreases in state funding.
“I look forward to a positive campaign, meeting citizens, and tackling challenges.”
