UPDATE  07-15-26**

The driver of the dump truck in yesterday’s crash has been identified as Matthew Goforth (46) of Muncie. Mr. Goforth was transported to a local hospital as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.

(7-14-26) According to County Pulse News…One person is dead following a collision between a dump truck and a van on State Road 1 in Jay County early Tuesday morning.

Redkey First Responders, Redkey Fire and the Jay County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched at around 5:29 a.m. to State Road 1 at County Road 400 South for a two-vehicle crash between a dump truck and a van …with van in flames.

Indiana State Police dispatch has confirmed one fatality at the scene. The victim has not been identified. A medical helicopter responded to the crash and transported an individual.

American Electric Power (AEP) power lines were down at the scene. Jay County Sheriff’s Deputies closed County Road 400 South at the intersection and later extended the closure west to 1100 West. Fire and rescue units cleared the scene shortly after 6:20 a.m. and the roadway reopened.

Indiana State Police are expected to handle the crash reconstruction.
