As Sheriff of this County, I want the public to be aware of the large number of scams my office has handled in the last year and also the large amount of money the scammers have stolen from Auglaize County Residents. This needs to stop, my office, along with the Grand Lake Task Force and other police agencies in our County have been very proactive in stopping these criminals, but they keep coming. We want to be very diligent with the citizens of Auglaize County and beyond to please stop falling for these scams and losing hundreds of thousands of dollars of your hard-earned money and retirement. We will not stop going after these criminals, however, understand a very large majority of these criminals are not local and have traveled from many states away to take your money. We have great partners in the FBI and BCI that have and will assist us. I just cannot urge the residents to please stop falling for any scam that would require you to pay any money and especially large amounts of money to someone that is traveling to your home or area to pick that money up. These thieves are scum and do not care what they are doing to you, please reach out to your local Sheriff’s Office or Police Dept and ask for help. Tracking these thieves is hard, however we will continue trying and at the least stop you from giving away your hard-earned money.
