Archbold, Ohio – On Thursday, April 16th, the Northwest State Community College Foundation proudly awarded 350 scholarships worth in excess of $1,000,000 to students from the region. With the theme of the night being “Driving for Success,” the event spotlighted scholarship recipients, donors and the community as well.

Dr. Todd Hernandez

Robbin Wilcox, Executive Director of Development & the NSCC Foundation

“We were blessed to hold another amazing Scholarship Awards event for our community. We are so proud of our students’ accomplishments, and we are grateful for the generosity of our donors – they help drive student success,” Wilcox noted.

The event kicked off with opening remarks by NSCC President Dr. Todd Hernandez, who shared a congratulatory note of gratitude for the event, and everyone involved, including the donors, the student recipients, and their families for their ongoing support. Troy Armstrong (Superintendent, Wauseon Exempted Village School District), provided the Donor perspective as another highlight of the evening.

Melaney Lloyd

AMAZING STUDENT STORY

Melaney Lloyd (Registered Nursing major) provided the student perspective, sharing a story of remarkable sacrifice and perseverance. In 2007, Lloyd graduated from the NSCC Medical Assisting program, and began working in a dermatology office. Life circumstances shifted, and she answered the call to become a full-time mother and caregiver. As her family grew, Melaney and her husband became a specialized foster home for addicted and medically-fragile children,

Lloyd said –

“and it was during that season of my life that my love for medicine came back to life in a way I never expected. What I did not realize at the time was how much my education at Northwest State Community College had already been preparing me for that very moment.”

Seventeen years later, Lloyd returned to Northwest State, more focused and determined than ever, to become a Registered Nurse. Lloyd received the James O. & Mary C. Miller RN Scholarship, as well as the Changing Lives Scholarship.
