From the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department-

(6-11-25) One of our own dispatchers, Liz Johnson, is currently in the fight of her life after being diagnosed with stage 4 thyroid cancer. The tumor damaged the nerve to her vocal cords, and she’s lost her voice—making it impossible for her to do the job she loves so deeply. With her current treatment plan, she has a long road ahead, and we all knew we had to do something to help her along until she is able to return to work.

The past two weeks, we held a Pie in the Face Fundraiser to show our support for Liz and her family. Each division competed to raise the most, and in true poetic fashion… Dispatch came out on top. As a reward, 911 Administrator Rachel Williams took a pie to the face—and so did Sheriff Timmerman, because why not add a little extra love (and whipped cream)?

But here’s the best part—Liz had NO idea. She didn’t know about the fundraiser, and she certainly didn’t know she was going to be the one doing the pie-ing! Her smile said it all.

We would do anything for our own. And Liz, we’re with you every step of the way. Keep fighting, sis. We’ve got you.
