(3-16-25) Members, parents, and legislators across Ohio will participate in a National Day of Action opposing federal and state cuts to public education on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. The day of action will elevate how these harmful policies directly impact Ohio students, families, and communities.
The Day of Action follows the recent confirmation vote of U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, efforts to dismantle the Department of Education by laying off 50% of its staff, and efforts to reduce or eliminate the Fair School Funding Plan by certain politicians in Columbus. These harmful acts will strip resources from vulnerable students, including those with disabilities, make higher education more expensive for future generations, and jeopardize state funding for public school districts across the state.
We are asking Ohio Education Association locals and members to take the actions below:
- Sign the Pledge to Protect Students and Schools
- Email your legislators about the importance of fully renewing the Fair School Funding Plan in the Ohio Budget
- Walk in with your colleagues and members wearing Red for Education (Toolkit)
- Who Pays for Cuts to Public Education – Talking Points
- Use the hashtags: #ProtectStudents #ProtectOhioStudents
Members will also be at the Statehouse lobbying directly to legislators on Wednesday. Our strength lies in our members’ collective action to defend our students and public schools, so educators have the resources to ensure all children and families receive the best education possible. Please stand in solidarity by Wearing Red for Education on Wednesday March 19th.
Please join us in advocating for our students and fellow educators of Ohio, by participating in Red for ED next Wednesday.
We encourage you also to take further action to protect students and public schools by:

Why do we want to continue sending our money to Washington so they can waste it and give us the crumbs left over. We will save our schools by getting the feds out of our schools. I never understood why people will gladly send their money to Washington, then at the same time, bitch that our property taxes are too high. Just like anything else, if the federal government is funding it, then they will control it. If you can show me how our schools have improved since the beginning of the DOE, then maybe I could go along with it, but when you look at the numbers, our country has been a dismal failure with education. Give it back to the state and local communities!
