
(2-14-24) Amanda Hovanec on Wednesday pleaded guilty to four federal charges in U.S. District Court for Northern Ohio in Toledo.
During a hearing before Judge James Knepp II on Wednesday afternoon she pleaded guilty to all counts.
- conspiracy to import a controlled substance
- importation of a controlled substance
- conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute of a controlled substance
- distribution of a controlled substance that resulted in death.
Judge Knepp ordered that a pre-sentence report be prepared, with a sentencing hearing to be scheduled for a later date.
Hovanec, was one of three charged in connection with the death of her ex-husband Timothy Hovanec (36), whose body was located in rural Auglaize County in April of 2022.
Timothy Hovanec died from a lethal injection of the controlled substance etorphine, also known as M99, when it was administered into his shoulder by Hovanec.
- Etorphine is available legally only for veterinary use and is strictly governed by law. It is often used to immobilize elephants and other large mammals.
Two others involved in the death of Timothy Hovanec…includeAnita Green, Amanda Hovanec’s mother, who has pleaded guilty to a felony count of being an accessory after the fact in the disposal of Hovanec’s body.
The other person involved is…Anthony Theodorou, who is from South Africa, has pleaded not guilty to charges identical to Hovanec.
