(8-29-23) The City of Celina Planning Commission met on Thursday night and unanimously approved a proposal to vacate a portion of Holly Street that will allow for changes to the design for the Celina City Schools new 7-12 school building.

The proposal would permanently close the section of Holly Street between East Wayne Street and Johnson Avenue and the recommendation will now go to the Celina City Council for a vote to approve.

Nancy Tobe of Access Engineering Solutions explained why the street change was needed-

“We’re asking for approval to vacate that so we can continue with the design of the proposed 7-12 building on that campus setting.

It would ask for the vacation of Holly Street so we can connect both sides of the roadway and make it an overall campus.”

The new structure is set to begin construction next summer.
