(7-17-23) State Representatives Angie King (R-Celina)and Josh Williams (R-Sylvania) have introduced House Bill 245 that would ban drag queens from performing in front of children.

The bill would ban adult cabaret performances outside venues specifically for adult cabarets. The bill defines this as any performance in a location other than an adult cabaret that is considered obscene or harmful to juveniles. Violators could face misdemeanor or felony charges depending if a juvenile is in attendance or is considered obscene.

During the Small Town Pride Day recently held at Lakeshore Park in Celina residents wanted the drag show banned, but the Celina City Council did not think it was necessary. If HB 245 is passed it will not be allowed to be held in the future at the Small Town Pride event or any other event held outside of an adult cabaret.

The bill currently has over 40 co-sponsors including Susan Manchester (R-Waynesfield).
