(5-20-23) Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a multiple vehicle crash Friday afternoon at around 3:30pm on State Route 49 and Delisle-Fourman Road,

Several vehicles were driving northbound on State Route 49 when they slowed down for a stopped vehicle attempting to pull into a private driveway. Chivas Chapman, Dayton, was driving a blue 2001 Dodge pickup truck but failed to maintain distance ahead and struck a maroon 2020 Jeep SUV driven by Tommy Spence (77) of Union City.

Spencer’s SUV went into a 2007 Jeep SUV driven by Tyler Johnson (28) of Brookville. Johnson’s vehicle then crashed into a 2005 gold Chevy Malibu driven by Jessica Campbell (34) of Arcanum.

Chapman, Johnson, Campbell, and her two passengers were treated and released from the scene.

CareFlight transported Spencer to Miami Valley Hospital where he is listed in fair condition. Medics took his passenger, Sherry Spencer, to Wayne HealthCare where she is listed in good condition.

Chapman was cited for failure to maintain distance.

The crash remains under investigation.
