(2-10-23) Tickets are on sale for Jay County Civic Theatre’s production of “The Laramie Project.”

The documentary-style play analyzes the death of Matthew Shepard, an openly gay college student who was brutally murdered in Laramie, Wyoming, in 1998 because of his sexual identity.

For “The Laramie Project,” playwright Moises Kauffman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project interviewed dozens of townspeople just four weeks after Shepherd’s death. The dialogue and monologues that comprise “The Laramie Project” are taken from these interviews, along with news reports, courtroom transcripts, and journal entries.

The show is meant for mature audiences because of strong language and explicit references to violence.

Performances of “The Laramie Project” are Feb. 17, 18 and 19 at the Jay County Campus of Arts Place and Feb. 25 at Blackford County Arts Center. Tickets are available at Arts Place, by calling (260) 726-4809 or online at myartsplace.org.

The presentation is made possible by grant funding through Ball State University.
