(10-13-22) The Lakota Local Schools Board of Education voted 4-1 Monday night to stop the public comment portion of its meetings amid an ongoing controversy involving Superintendent Matt Miller. Miller is a former Celina City Schools Superintendent.
The vote came in front of a large number Lakota School District parents and residents of the district.
School Board Member Darbi Boddy was the lone vote against it-
“Muzzling our community is a bad idea. It will not go well for you.”
Member Kelley Casper
“It’s gotten to the point where a lot of times at the mic there’s not even any decorum and there’s not even any respect and people yelling from the audience. It’s gotten to the point where we can’t even conduct business.”
The Lakota BOE voted last month to hire a New York-based law firm that is charging the district $280 to $360 per hour to investigate the Miller situation.

The public comment shutdown comes on the advice of BOE attorney Alex Ewing who cited a recently federal lawsuit filed against the school board and BOE President O’Connor, individually and in her official capacity, by resident Diane Hughes.
The suit is one of three pending now against Lakota involving public records or public speaking at board meetings related to the superintendent.
On September 28th Miller denied any wrongdoing and claimed this was an attempt at ‘character assassination‘.
The meeting adjourned after a shouting match between O’Connor and Boddy.
