(10-10-22) The Steuben County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identification(s) of the three deceased individuals involved in yesterday morning’s shooting incident(s) in Angola.
The two deceased victims at the Elizabeth Street residence have been identified as Francisco Javier Velazquez Martinez (23), Angola, and Fernando Reyes Fernandez (21), also of Angola.
The deceased male involved in the police action shooting, which began at the Elizabeth Street residence and ended on Felicity Street, has been identified as Bryar Everett Wolfe (19), of Fremont, IN.
The families for all three of the deceased have been notified.
The four officers involved in the police action shooting have all been placed on administrative leave or administrative duties by their respective agency pending the outcome and review of the investigation by the Steuben County Prosecutor. The officers will not be named until the prosecutor has completed his review,
The incident…what took place
The Angola Police Department responded to a home in the 400 block of North Elizabeth Street for a shots-fired call. When officers arrived, they found two deceased males outside the residence. Detectives and Crime Scene investigators from the Indiana State Police Ft. Wayne Post were requested by the Angola Police Department to assist with this investigation.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. officers with the Angola Police Department and an Indiana State Trooper encountered a male in the 600 block of South Elizabeth Street that matched the description of the person suspected of shooting the two males at the residence on North Elizabeth Street. During this encounter the male displayed a handgun and engaged in an exchange of gunfire with officers. The male then fled on foot eastbound on West Felicity Street. Near the intersection of West Felicity Street and South Wayne Street another exchange of gunfire occurred between the male and officers. The male was struck at least once in this exchange of gunfire.
