(9-19-22) Daryl Lee Cooper (73) Portland is accused of seriously injuring a fellow inmate at the Jay County Jail during a dispute over a TV remote control.
Cooper was charged on Wednesday in Jay Circuit Court with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony carrying up to six years in prison.
Cooper on August 24th shoved Lendol E. Reed (57) Muncie into a metal bench in a cell-block at the jail. Reed allegedly suffered “extreme pain, a collapsed lung, cracked ribs and abrasions.”
The incident between Cooper and Reed over the TV remove control reportedly indicated that Reed intended to change the channel while Cooper was watching a program.
Reed was taken to IU Health Jay Hospital, and was later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Reed was in the Jay County Jail on two charges filed, possession of meth and possession of paraphernalia.
Cooper is in jail on two charges, invasion of privacy and intimidation and had signed a plea agreement in Jay Superior Court case last week.
