(5-16-22) On Friday (5-13-22) the Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to State Road 218, just east of County Road 100 East, just after 2 p.m. for a reported crash. 

Muncie resident Aaron Michael Nelson (24) was speeding on S.R. 218 when he looked down at his GPS and would hit the back of an Amish buggy that was also heading east on S.R. 218.

On impact, the driver and three children were thrown out of the buggy and landed on the south side of the road by a ditch.  

Elizabeth Schwartz (30) was operating the buggy, was taken to the hospital along with three of her children. They all had face, head and internal injuries. All the children were ages 11 and younger.

The driver and two children were taken to a local hospital with injuries to the head and face. 

The third child, an 11-year-old girl, died in the hospital Saturday. 

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash.
