(1-22-22) Luis J. Perez, 31, 128 W. 3rd St., Portland, Indiana has been charged Jay Circuit Court with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in the January 11th death of David R. Riley of Portland . Perez is being held in the Jay County Jail on $55,000 bond.
A 9-1-1 call alerted police…Riley’s 12-year-old son told police they were watching a movie when he
noticed his father was unconscious.
Riley died of an overdose on September 6th. Being interviewed by Portland Police Perez said he sold Riley two capsules earlier that day and that Riley inhaled the contents of one of the capsules.
An autopsy reported the cause of Riley’s death was a result of multiple-drug intoxication, a mixture of several drugs, including fentanyl.
Perez was already scheduled to stand trial April 20 in Jay Superior Court on three charges filed after his September arrest: possession of meth, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.
Perez also faces two charges filed against him in June, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. A trial is set for March 22.
