Mercer County Health District News Release

CELINA (1-3-22) – Late last week, the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) announced their alignment with the CDC’s recently updated isolation and quarantine guidance. The new quarantine and isolation guidelines apply to the general population. The guidelines are as follows:

  • Isolation (For those who test positive for COVID-19):
    • Anyone with a positive COVID-19 test result, regardless of vaccination status, should isolate at home for 5 days.
    • If symptoms have improved or resolved after 5 days of isolation, individuals may resume normal activities while wearing a mask in public and when around others for the next 5 days.
    • If symptoms have not improved or resolved after 5 days of isolation, individuals should continue to stay home and isolate until symptoms have improved or resolved.
  • Quarantine (For those exposed to COVID-19):
    • Fully vaccinated persons are not required to quarantine if they meet the following criteria:
      • Have been boosted OR
      • Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine within the last 6 months OR
      • Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine within the last 2 months AND
      • Have remained asymptomatic since the current COVID-19 exposure

*Fully vaccinated persons should test on day 5 and wear a mask around others through day 10.

  • Individuals are advised to quarantine if they are:
    • Unvaccinated OR
    • Completed the primary series of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine more than 6 months ago and are not boosted OR
    • Completed the primary series of J&J vaccine more than 2 months ago and are not boosted.

*These individuals should stay home for 5 days from the last date of exposure, test on day 5, and wear a mask around others through day 10.

Please be advised, the Mercer County Health District (MCHD) staff and ODH’s contact tracing team are working diligently to contact all positive cases in a timely manner. However, due to the shortened duration of isolation and quarantine periods, it may not be possible to contact all cases within their isolation timeframe. The MCHD appreciates the public’s patience as we begin to navigate these new guidelines.
