(11-17-21) Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer. passed away last night after suffering a medical emergency at approximately 9 p.m. while attending the Buckeye State Sheriffs Association 91st Annual Conference & Exhibit conference in Sandusky.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Office appreciates the outpouring of support during this time as we have lost Sheriff Fischer. As we work through our own grieving, we ask for the public’s patience during this time.

Fischer was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey was also attending the same conference and posted the following on his Facebook page –

So sad. I have known and been friends with Sheriff Fischer for several years. We are keeping Sheriff Fischer and his family & the Greene County Sheriff’s Office in our prayers. RIP Sheriff and thank you for your service.

Fischer had a bachelor’s degree from Capitol University in criminal justice and a a master’s degree from Tiffin University in criminal justice administration.

Fischer served as Xenia Police Officer for 20 years, from 1983 to 2003.

He became the Greene County Sheriff in 2003 and held that position for the past 18 years.
