(10-31-21) Mercer County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gery Thobe recently received the 2021 CARES Award.

The CARES Award is given annually to first responders and frontline workers who go above and beyond in helping individuals, families, and their communities deal with the adverse effects of Ohio’s opiate epidemic.

Chief Deputy Thobe began working for the Sheriff’s Office in 1985, left in 1997 to be the Police Chief at Coldwater Police Department, and returned to our office in 2006 to be Chief Deputy. He has spearheaded the CIT and the Rapid Response programs at the Sheriff’s Office to aid those suffering from mental illness and drug addiction.
