CELINA – As of October 27, 2021, the Mercer County Health District (MCHD) reports 5,192 confirmed cases, 1,062 probable cases, 4,944 recovered cases, 4 known hospitalizations, 97 COVID-19 deaths, and 21 probable deaths of COVID-19 among Mercer County residents. In addition, there have been 59 confirmed cases who have passed away due to causes other than COVID-19. Today, there are 94 known active cases of COVID-19 in Mercer County.  Out of the cumulative total of confirmed cases, there has been a total of 59 reinfections of COVID-19.

There have been 72 confirmed and 20 probable cases of COVID-19 among fully vaccinated Mercer County residents. Of those individuals, 14 were hospitalized and have since recovered. Four have passed away.

The transmission rate of COVID-19 in Mercer County continues to be high. A high transmission rate is defined as 100 or more new cases per 100,000 people in a 7-day period or a test positivity rate of 10% or higher. Mercer County has seen 233 cases per 100,000 people in the past seven days and has a test positivity rate of 14.68%. COVID-19 booster doses are now available for eligible individuals. For individuals who received Pfizer or Moderna as their primary COVID-19 vaccine series, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at least 6 months after completion of their primary COVID-19 vaccine series:

  • 65 years and older
  • Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings
  • Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions
  • Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings

The MCHD will begin offering the Moderna COVID-19 booster shot to eligible individuals by appointment on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine will continue to be offered on Fridays at the MCHD office. Please call 419-586-3251, Option 2, to ask questions or schedule an appointment.

For those who received the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine, a booster shot is recommended for those who are 18 and older and were vaccinated at least 2 months ago. At this time, the MCHD is not offering the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine. The MCHD is referring all individuals who are interested in receiving a booster dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine in Mercer County to call Kaup Pharmacy at 419-375-2323, Option 3.

Additionally, the CDC’s recommendations now allow for ‘mix and match’ dosing for booster shots. Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose.

Multiple providers are now offering COVID-19 vaccine in Mercer County. The list below provides the vaccine type and contact information to schedule appointments with each provider. Please note that the amount and type of vaccine offered by each provider will vary depending on supply and demand.
