(9-10-21) On September 10, 2021 (Friday) at approximately 1:40 PM the Allen County (Indiana) Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team assisted the Decatur Police Department in serving a high risk search warrant at a residence in the 200 block of Piedmont Lane in Decatur, Indiana.

Earlier in the day the South Carolina State Police had obtained digital information that led the trail of the wanted subject to this address. That wanted subject being Sherman Jones (21), who is a fugitive from justice on the charge of homicide. South Carolina Agents contacted investigators with the Decatur Police Department which started the local investigation. Based on the digital evidence obtained by South Carolina a search warrant was issued for the residence in Decatur.

Due to the severity of the crime involved and obvious concerns for all involved, the nearby school campus, North Adams Community Schools was notified of our activity. Out of an abundance of caution their “Secure Perimeter” protocol was activated. This simply prevents students going outside and unknown people coming into the building. Classes carried on as normal.

There was miscommunication at some level between law enforcement and the school causing many parents to receive a message saying the wanted suspect was apprehended. Unfortunately, this is not the case, the wanted suspect was not located during the search.

At this time we do not believe he is still in our area. But we certainly appreciate the public keeping an eye open for him. If you believe you see him, do not approach him, call 911 and report what you see.
