(8-28-21) The Congregation of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ – Rockford welcomed Reverend Doug Meyer to the pulpit on Sunday, August 15, 2021. He called the children forward for the Children’s Message. He had been baking again. The cookies were in the shape of an anchor with a cross in its design. The anchor stood for two lessons: an anchor holds down a boat. An anchor h=keeps us in place Jesus doesn’’t want us to drift away from him. Hold on to him. He holds on to us. The children then went to Children’s Church.

Doug continued with the sermon, Doubting, Sinking and Rising Again, which was based on the Gospel scripture of Mark 14:22-33. Mark explains that Peter was walking on the water towards Jesus. Peter suddenly realized what he was doing and the rough water around him. He immediately began to sink and said, “Lord Save me!”. Jesus said to Peter, “Oh you of little faith. Why did you doubt?” Pastor Doug explained that we all have times of doubt and wonder if God has deserted us. “How can I weather one more storm?” we ask ourselves. Pastor Doug reminded us that the word of God touches us. The word says he will lift us up and raises us up again and again. He loves us. We all pray, “Lord save me in times of doubt. But He is there, just like he was with Peter. And we need to be anchored to our God. Pastor Doug reminded us that we need to let God catch us. Let us live in Him everyday and anchor ourselves in the Lord Jesus Christ every day.

Reverend Doug Meyer is the retired minister from St. John’s Lutheran Church in Celina serving over 50 years in the
