(5-1-21) Hamilton Heights School Corporation, in Arcadia, Indiana, was scheduled to have prom tonight. But just before 7 p.m. the school canceled the event after receiving news of two students who died and two others who were injured in a crash on their way to prom.

All scheduled prom activities were canceled. The school corporation had grief counselors and members of its faith-based community at the Elite Banquet Center in Kokomo and Hamilton Heights High School Media Center.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said at 5:15 p.m. deputies were alerted of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 281st Street and Lacey Road.

A Honda Accord, with four high school students who were all on their way to the prom, was involved in the crash crash with a medium-sized SUV.

The sheriff’s office said the Honda Accord was hit on the side. When officers arrived at the crash they found two of the high school students in the Honda Accord had died, the driver Linden Byrum and his front-seat passenger Kalen Hart.

The other two passengers were taken to St. Vincent Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle declined medical assistance at the scene.
