UPDATED: (2-19-21) Meyer pleaded guilty this week to a 3rd degree charge of vehicular homicide in connection with the traffic death James Riethman (58) of Rockford in August of 2020.

Meyer pleaded guilty as part of an agreement with prosecutors. In 2000 Meyer was convicted of a vehicular homicide.

Meyer’s sentencing is set for March 17th, 2021.

James J. Riethman age 58, of Rockford, Ohio, died at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 7, 2020 in Rockford, Ohio. He was born August 13, 1961 in St. Marys, Ohio to the late Aloys Riethman who preceded him in death in 2011 and Julitta “Judy” (Voskuhl) Riethman and she survives in McCartyville. He is survived by son & daughter-in-law Mike & Kelly Riethman, West Carrollton, grandchildren: Summer, Tobias & Clinton, brothers & sisters: Carol & Tony De Novi, Florida, Barb Roger, Lima, Joan & Tim Clay, Wapakoneta, Ted Riethman, McCartyville, Larry & Sue Riethman, Oakwood, OH, Patrick Riethman, Botkins, Elizabeth McMahan, Sidney, in-laws: Randy Stelzer, Wapakoneta, Jeannie Riethman, Huber Heights. He was preceded in death by brothers & sister, Ken Riethman, Linda Stelzer, Leroy Riethman and in-law Ron Roger. Jim was a graduate of Anna High School in 1980 and was a veteran of the US Air Force. He was active with the Boy Scouts Troop 95, New Bremen and worked at Kosei, St. Marys. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday August 12, 2020 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, McCartyville. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery with full Military Honors. Friends may call at the Hogenkamp Funeral Home, Minster from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and from 9 to 10 AM at the CHURCH on Wednesday. The family requests social distancing and masks be used. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Boy Scout Troop 95, New Bremen, Ohio.

(2-15-21) Lawrence J Meyer (58) of Celina has been charged with a 3rd degree felony count of aggravated vehicular homicide in the August 7th traffic death of James J Riethman (58) of Rockford.

The charge was filed in Mercer County Common Pleas Court, accuses Meyer of causing Riethman’s death recklessly. When Meyer was booked in October, 2020 it was on a Vehicular Homicide charge, a 1st degree misdemeanor.

Riethman was eastbound on a Recumbent Sun Seeker 3-wheel style bicycle on St Rte 118 near the intersection of Purdy Rd, just south of Rockford, when he was struck from behind by a pickup truck driven by Meyer.

Meyer is due to make his initial appearance in Mercer County Common Pleas Court on Wednesday February 17th at 1 pm.
