CELINA- (2-4-21) The Mercer County Health District (MCHD) is announcing changes for our COVID-19 vaccine clinics for next week. These changes are necessary because MCHD staff and volunteers will be administering a large number of second doses of the Pfizer Vaccine on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 and Friday, February 12, 2021.
Everyone who received the first dose of Pfizer Vaccine on Wednesday, January 20, has a designated appointment on Wednesday, February 10. To reduce wait times, some of these appointments will be rescheduled for Friday, February 12. If you were vaccinated on January 20, check the vaccine card you received that day to determine your scheduled time. The MCHD will contact those who will need to be rescheduled for an afternoon appointment on Friday, February 12, 2021. If you do not receive a call from MCHD, come to the clinic at your scheduled time.
Since the January 20 clinic, the MCHD has made improvements to the drive-thru clinic system. The average time from start to finish is now less than one hour. Accessible portable toilets have also been provided on-site. The demand for the COVID-19 vaccine is high, but the supply is limited. MCHD receives weekly shipments of the first-dose vaccine from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH), and all doses of vaccine are administered before the weekend, so that all doses are used as soon as possible and none are held over into the next week. Many people have contacted the health department complaining of difficulty in getting through to schedule vaccination appointments on the phone. Because there are so many people who want the vaccine, there will likely be continued difficulty for several weeks.
MCHD’s next drive-thru clinic for the first dose vaccine is scheduled for the morning of Friday, February 12, 2021. Because next week’s allotment of vaccine is small and demand among the age groups already served is still very high, MCHD will continue to provide vaccine for those who are 70 years of age or above during the week of February 8. The vaccine will be offered to people who are 65 years of age or above during the week of February 15.
