(11-8-20) On November 7, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Darke County Sheriff’s Deputies along with Northstar Fire Department, Ansonia Rescue, Osgood Rescue, Versailles Rescue and Miami Valley Careflight responded to the 14400 block of US Route 127 on an injury accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a northbound 2018 White Dodge Caravan driven by Christopher Teachout (35), of Jackson, Michigan, was traveling northbound on US Route 127 and began to turn west into a business drive. A semi behind Teachout had stopped behind him as he started to turn and his vehicle into the business. Three motorcycles, also northbound US Route 127, attempted to pass both Teachout and the semi. Two of the motorcycles struck Teachout’s vehicle as he turned.

Those motorcycles were a 2019 Gray Harley Davidson Road Glide driven by Richard Spence (64), of Somerville, Ohio, and a 2020 Red Harley Davidson Road Glide driven by Jason Gravelle (40), of Cincinnati, Ohio. The third motorcycle, a 2006 Black Harley Davidson FLHX driven by Michael Willhite (43), of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, struck Gravelles motorcycle as Gravelles motorcycle was beginning to lay down. Willhite was unable to maintain control and his motorcycle was laid down as well. The semi was not struck during the crash and was not on scene when first responders showed up.

Teachout and a juvenile passenger in the minvan were transported by Ansonia Rescue to Coldwater Hospital. Samantha Raschke (36), of Jackson, Michigan, and an infant that were also passengers in the minivan were transported to Coldwater Hospital by Versailles Rescue. Spence was transported to Coldwater Hospital by Osgood Rescue. Gravelle was transported to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight. Willhite was treated at the scene and refused transport.

All injuries appear to be non-life threatening. This accident remains under investigation.
