David Hecox, 24, of Pittsfield, Illinois was arraigned this week on indictments handed down last week by the Van Wert County Grand Jury. Hecox pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder, each a felony of the first degree, and one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony offense. Jude Martin D. Burchfield set a $500,000 cash bond in the case and scheduled a telephone pretrial conference for 9 a.m. Friday, August 7.
(6-24-20) The Van Wert Police Department was called to 422 North Washington Street around 3:00am on (Tuesday) June 23rd that Joshua Dangler (34) had been stabbed in the neck. Officers and EMS arrived on scene and the victim was transported by the Van Wert Fire Department EMS to Van Wert Health for treatment.
After an investigation the suspect was identified as David Crawford Hecox (23) of Pittsfield, Illinois. VWPD Detectives along with the assistance of the Van Wert Sheriff’s Office located Hecox at his place of employment. Hecox was found to have blood on his clothing and in the vehicle he had been driving.
Hecox is in the Van Wert area working for a wind turbine company as a road flagger.
Hecox has been charged with Felonious Assault, a Felony of the Second Degree and was taken to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility to await a hearing in Van Wert Municipal Court.
