(6-17-20) As a respected biology and ecology teacher, a local farmer, and a member of the Tri Moraine Audubon Society, Tim Kennedy was an avid environmentalist. In 2013 he applied to the Wetlands Restoration Project to create wetlands on part of his farm. The Kennedy Wetlands were established in 2015. According to his wife Sandy, these are permanent wetlands which will never be returned to farmland. Currently, the Kennedy wetlands have four ponds as well as a sedge meadow and a variety of trees, flowers and grasses chosen by government advisors. Artificial nests have been put out to attract birds. After Tim passed away in 2016, the family created a pine grove memorial to Tim. The Kennedy Wetlands are now filled with all types of birds, insects, and wildlife.
