(January 5, 2020) – On 1-5-19 at approximately 2:45 pm a Sidney Police Officer observed a vehicle that had previously been reported stolen in the area of Michigan St. and Oak Ave. The officer pulled out after the vehicle and attempted to stop it on Highland Ave. near Taft St. The vehicle immediately accelerated. The vehicle turned west on Campbell St., north on Kuther, east on Cisco, north on SR 29, and east on SR 119. The vehicle proceeded through some side streets in Anna before heading south on CR 25A. The Ohio State Patrol deployed spike strips on CR 25A, near I75, but the vehicle briefly left the roadway to avoid them. A Sidney Officer deployed spike strips at the intersection of Wapakoneta Ave. and Russell Rd., deflating all four tires. The vehicle stopped on Wapakoneta near Kossuth. The driver ran northbound along Wapakoneta Ave. before giving up near Sidney Food Town.
The driver was identified at Brandt M. Kellem (26) of 901½ N. Main Ave. Sidney. He was arrested and charged with felony receiving stolen property and felony fleeing and eluding. He also has a warrant for obstructing official business and was transported to the Shelby County Jail.
The Ohio State Highway and Shelby County Sheriff’s Office assisted a various points of the pursuit.
