(11-12-19) Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach released that his Office is investigating a fatal crash that occurred on U.S. Route 30 at John Brown Road. Sheriff Riggenbach stated at 10:04pm, on Monday November 11th, his Office received a 9-1-1 call about a Semi-Tractor and car crash on U.S. Route 30 at John Brown Road in the westbound lanes.

Based on evidence at the scene, the crash appeared to have happened when the vehicle (Dodge Avenger) being driven south bound on John Brown Road by Kathi R. Williams (58) of Van Wert failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck on the driver side by a Volvo CB  semi truck being driven west bound on U.S. Rt. 30 by Homer E. Bolin (67) of Georgetown, Kentucky. The Dodge Avenger came to rest on the north side of U.S. Rt. 30. The Volvo CB came to rest in the median between the eastbound and westbound lanes. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene.

The driver of the car Williams, sustained fatal injuries as a result of the crash. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene by the Van Wert County Coroner’s Office and was transported to Van Wert Health. Bolin was not injured.

Sheriff Riggenbach said the crash remains under investigation.

Assisting at the scene were Van Wert Fire and EMS, Van Wert ODOT, Ohio State Highway Patrol, and the Van Wert Police Department.
