(8-8-19) This morning at about 1:44AM a citizen called and reported a semi-tractor trailer in a corn field north of SR29 at the curve between Staeger Rd and Havemann Rd off of the westbound side.
Upon arrival officers found the semi-tractor and trailer in the field. The driver could not be located. A helicopter from the Ohio State Highway Patrol was called. With use of it’s forward looking infrared (FLIR) camera the pilots were able to locate the driver in the corn field about 150 feet from the semi. Mercer County Sheriff’s Deputies, St. Marys P.D. and the Highway Patrol all assisted in the search.
The driver, Alexander Khaspekov (58) , was in and out of consciousness. He was taken to Mercer Health by ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation revealed that Khaspekov, was operating a 2015 Volvo semi westbound on SR29 west of Staeger Rd., when, for an unknown reason, he failed to negotiate the curve and drove off of the north side of the roadway. He traveled a few hundred feet and crashed through a drainage ditch and came to rest. He apparently exited the truck and wandered in the corn until lost consciousness.
The Celina P.D. would like to thank the citizen who made the call, the State Highway Patrol, Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and the St. Marys Police Dept. for all assistance.
