(8-4-19) Just after 1 a.m. Sunday, a man wearing body armor and carrying high-capacity magazines fired dozens of rounds into the crowd on Dayton’s East Fifth Street near the Ned Peppers Bar, killing ten people and wounding 26 others.

Thousands of people were in the popular Oregon District, home to entertainment options, including bars, restaurants and theaters. The gunman, Connor Betts, was carrying a .223-caliber rifle and additional high-capacity magazines. Less than a minute after the gunman began shooting, he was shot and killed by first responders.

According to other media sources, Betts while a Bellbrook High School student was suspended for causing a lockdown by writing a “hit-list” on a bathroom wall.
