UPDATED – 4-19-19 –
Mercer County Sheriff Jeff Grey announced the arrest of 51 year old Dennis A. Studer, on charges of Failure to Register a Change of Address as a Sex Offender, as well as Obstructing Official Business. Mr. Studers arrest was a result of several tips provided to the Sheriff’s Office. He remains incarcerated in the Mercer County Jail under $100,000.00 bond.
(4-17-19) On April 11, 2019, the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to conduct a periodic address verification on a male at 411 East Broadway Street Apt. B in Fort Recovery. During the course of this verification, information was obtained that the sex offender, Jonathan Coy, had not been living at that residence since April 7th. Coy was later found to be living in Portland, Indiana and was arrested by the Jay County Sheriff’s Office on a Probation Violation from the Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Coy was ordered to register as a sex offender as a result of a conviction for Gross Sexual Imposition. He was ordered to register on April 3, 2019 as a Tier I Sex Offender, which means that he must register his address every year for the next 15 years. Coy was unable to comply with his sex offender registration requirements for more than a week.
He was transferred to the Mercer County Jail where charges for Failure to Register Change of Address are expected to be filed within the coming days.
On April 13, 2019, the State Highway Patrol arrested Dennis Studer for several traffic violations. Studer was brought to the jail and bonded out shortly after he was brought in. Studer, a registered sex offender, gave a fake address to the jail upon bonding out, but was found to be staying at 819 East Wayne Street in Celina. Studer is a Tier III Sex Offender and is required to register his address every 90 days for the rest of his life. Mr. Studer had been a resident of Mercer County in the past and had moved to Tennessee late last year. He has absconded from Tennessee authorities and had not notified any agency of his address for several months.
On April 15th, after enough information was obtained to establish probable cause for an arrest, Deputies went to the residence on Wayne Street only to find that Mr. Studer had taken off on foot shortly before law enforcement arrived. Charges have been filed for Failure to Register Change of Address, a felony of the second degree.
Should anyone have any information on where Studer may be hiding, please contact your local law enforcement.
