(1-25-19) A long-time fixture in Celina, the Celina Motel (225 South Main Street), could be razed (February 4th, 2019) in the very near future after the City of Celina gave the owner, Muhammad Khokhar, the notice that the complex is a ‘serious hazzard’.

Khokhar’s lawyer Tom Lammers gave a recent statement to the Daily Standard:
“We have worked with and will continue to work with the city to reach a solution,”

Interesting that there are no cited code violations besides the fact that it’s being used for apartments rather than as a hotel. A change in use doesn’t suddenly create a hazard. City officials are fabricating a crisis where none actually exists. I question whether there is a bit of discrimination here against somebody whose race, national origin, and religion aren’t the same as the majority of residents. I also question whether local officials just want to eliminate a visual blight, which actually presents no actual hazard or danger, to either the public or the building occupants. So much for property rights. Private property rights exist, except when your private property rights are trumped by power-hungry local politicians
