(12-5-18) House Bill 545 passed the Ohio House of Representatives today with a vote of 84-1, which would repeal sales tax from tampons and other feminine hygiene products. Hygiene products generally are already exempt from sales tax, but currently do not include feminine hygiene products. Representative Niraj Antani (R-Miamisburg) was a co-sponsor of the original bill.
Products such as tampons and sanitary napkins will be exempt from sales tax which supporters say is an unfair tax on women.
“This is a common sense tax cut that should have been enacted long ago. It will help the women of Ohio keep more of their hard earned money. The law as it currently stands discriminated against women, and I am proud to have voted for this bill that repeals this discrimination.”
Sales taxes from these products cost Ohio females $4 million a year.
