(6-19-18) The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an ATV accident which resulted in the death of Dillon W. Place, 28, of Wapakoneta. The incident happened early Sunday at around 1:43 am on Sunderland Road near Agerter Road in Amanda Township .

Place was riding a 1999 Honda 400 EX four wheeler that was headed southbound on Sunderland Road when he lost control of the vehicle. Place’s vehicle would collide  with a dirt bike being driven by Codie B. Rostorfar (22) of Buckland, after leaving the roadway the ATV collided with two mailboxes, a culvert and threw Place off.

Place was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s from the scene by Spencerville EMS. He was pronounced dead by Allen County Coroner Investigator Jamie Sizemore at the hospital.

Rostorfer and Danielle J. Sudman of St. Marys, a passenger on the ATV, were injured during the accident but both fled the scene and later would be transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys by Rostorfer’s parents.

None of the three individuals involved are believed to have been wearing helmets. The investigation will continue.

Funeral Arrangements

The family will receive friends 2-4:30 Wednesday at Bayliff & Son Funeral Home, Cridersville. The memorial service will be held at 4:30 with Father Pat Sloneker officiating. A gathering will follow the service until 6:00.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family.


Dillon Wesley ‘Dude’ Place age 28, of Wapakoneta passed away 3:15 a.m., Sunday June 17, 2018 at St. Rita’s Medical Center. He was born Dec. 5, 1989 in St. Mary’s to Jeff and Monica Braun Place. Jeff survives in Wapak and Monica survives in Wapak.

Dillon worked out of the Union Hall for Eagle Bridging and Hagerman Construction. He enjoyed riding 4 wheelers and pulling. He loved working with his boxers.

Additional survivors include siblings Rex Place of Lima, Alexandrea (Tim) Rostorfer of Wapakoneta Abigail Place of Wapak, a nephew Kale Eugene Hook and a niece Taylor Mae Rostorfer.
