(2-12-18) Due to continued widespread flu activity in Mercer County and the surrounding area, Mercer Health is offering a public walk-in flu vaccine clinic on Thursday, February 15, from 7:00 – 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Mercer Health West Campus (830 W. Main St., Coldwater).
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are still weeks of flu activity ahead and the first and most important step in protecting against flu viruses is vaccination.
Nicole Pleiman, Mercer Health Infection Prevention and Control Nurse
“Although the flu vaccine is highly encouraged in the fall prior the start of flu season, it’s not too late to get your flu vaccine now. It takes just two weeks to develop protection after receiving your flu shot. Although influenza typically peaks between December and February, we anticipate seeing influenza for several more weeks, possibly into April or even May.”
A limited number of vaccines are available and will be given on a first come, first serve basis. No appointments are needed. Vaccines are only available for those ages 18 and older at the clinic (contact your pediatrician or family health provider for information regarding flu shots for children under the age of 18). The cost for a regular dose flu vaccine is $30. There is no charge for Medicare Part B enrollees (must show your current card).
If you have questions about the flu shot clinic, please contact Mercer Health’s Community Outreach department at 419-678-5216.
