(1-25-18) Wapakoneta-Troopers from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating a 4 vehicle injury crash that occurred Wednesday January 24th at 6:50 pm on US 33 near mile post 11 between Bay Road and Kettlersville Road in Auglaize County.


A 2013 Hyundai Azera driven by Tyler Wallace, age 23 from Westerville was stuck in the median on US 33 eastbound. A 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche by Donnie Hicks, 55 of St Marys, stopped to assist the Azera. After pulling the Azera out of the median, Hicks was unhooking a tow strap from the vehicles when a 2006 Dodge Stratus driven by Dawn Storer, 44 of St Marys struck the avalanche in the rear, pushing it forward. The forward motion caused Hicks’ leg to be pinned between the Avalance and the Azera. The status continued sliding off the right side of the roadway. A 2011 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Alexander Ratliff, age 29 of St Marys immediately tried to avoid the crash by turning to the right. The rear of the Malibu slid left and struck the Azera and continued to slide off the roadway.

Hicks was transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St Marys with non-life threatening injuries. He was later transported to Mercy Health Systems in Lima. No other persons involved were transported from the scene for medical treatment.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Buckland Fire Department, Wapakoneta EMS, Big Daddy’s Towing, Midway Towing, Mayse’s Towing, Miller Auto and Nelson’s Body Shop. The crash remains under investigation.
