(1-7-18) – Celina Kiwanis member Amy Broering described the services available to children at the Mercer County District Library. Although the library still offers traditional books and magazines for toddlers through teens, they have kept pace with technology. Book choices have been expanded with ebooks, books on CD, and books on Playaways (devices that come with preloaded content).
To encourage young readers, the library also offers story and craft hours, a summer reading program with prizes, and morning story times.
New this year are a winter reading program for preschoolers and evening story times.
Visits to public and IC preschools, Headstart, and local daycare locations and participation in the Healthy Kids Days in Coldwater and at the Auglaize-Mercer YMCA are some of the library’s outreach programs.
The kindergarten bags distributed to children at the kindergarten screenings are familiar to the Celina Kiwanis. Club members assemble these bags as one of their service projects.
Inspiring children to read is the goal of Amy Broering and the Mercer County District Library.
