(4-8-26) Jay County Schools head nurse, Nancy Snyder has been awarded the School Nurse of the Year for 2026 by the Indiana Association of School Nurses for excellence in school nursing.

With more than 30 years in nursing, Nancy has dedicated her career to caring for children and strengthening our community. She began her nursing journey as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in 1994 and earned her Registered Nurse (RN) degree in 2017. Since 2005, she has served as a School Nurse, providing compassionate, student-centered care and promoting safe, healthy learning environments for our students each day.
In 2020—just two weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic began—Nancy stepped into the role of Health Services Coordinator. During one of the most challenging times in school health history, she helped guide health protocols, supported staff and families, and ensured students’ well-being with steady leadership and dedication.
Nancy has also served as an American Heart Association CPR Instructor since 2009, equipping staff and community members with lifesaving skills. She is active in Fairview United Methodist Church, serves on the Board of Directors for Praise & Pathways Daycare, participates in the Women’s Giving Circle, and has volunteered with 4-H for more than 20 years—mentoring youth and supporting leadership development.
Family and community are at the heart of Nancy’s life. She is married, the proud mother of three children, and grandmother to two grandsons. She and her family live on their family farm, where faith, service, and hard work continue to shape both her personal and professional life.
