(3-31-26) The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) has announced that rainbow trout will be released into Tawawa Lake on April 3, 2026 (time of the release is TBD).

80,000 rainbow trout are released every spring in public lakes and ponds across Ohio.

ODNR consistently releases rainbow trout into various public lakes and ponds across Ohio each year. Sidney has enjoyed the benefits of this program for numerous years.

Restocking public lakes and ponds presents a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy fishing together. Targeting catchable-sized trout is a great way to introduce younger generations to the outdoors. Rainbow trout are raised at state fish hatcheries and measure 10-13 inches before they are released by the ODNR Division of Wildlife. The daily harvest limit for inland lakes is five trout per angler.

Davis Lake, located at the Auglaize County Solid Waste and Recycling Center on River Road north of St. Marys …is scheduled to be stocked on April 9th. The lake is open for public fishing during daylight hours.

Schoonover Lake in Allen County will be stocked on April 8th.
