(2-18-26) Jay Conty Jr.-Sr. High senior Brennan Chrisman, the son of Brian and Laurie Chrisman, has been named a National Merit Scholarship Program finalist.
Approximately 1.3 million students take the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) each year. Of these, 16,000 students across the U.S. are named semifinalists. Semifinalists represent the highest-scoring students within their state. After notification, semifinalists complete an application, which must include “a record of consistently very high academic performance in all of grades 9 through 12 and in any college coursework taken“; evidence of having taken “the SAT or ACT and [earning] scores that confirm the PSAT/NMSQT performance that resulted in Semifinalist standing”; and the completion of an essay.
Based on Brennan’s application, he was selected as one of 15,000 finalists, representing approximately 1% of the students who take the test. As a finalist, Brennan will now be considered for a National Merit Scholarship.
