(COLUMBUS, Ohio)— Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issued the following reprieves of execution:

  • Gerald Hand, who was scheduled to be executed on June 17, 2026.  The new date of execution has been moved to April 18, 2029.
  • Danny Lee Hill, who was scheduled to be executed on July 22, 2026.  The new date of execution has been moved to July 18, 2029.
  • Cleveland R. Jackson, who was scheduled to be executed on July 15, 2026.  The new date of execution has been moved to June 13, 2029.

Governor DeWine is issuing these reprieves due to ongoing problems involving the willingness of pharmaceutical suppliers to provide drugs to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC), pursuant to DRC protocol, without endangering other Ohioans.

Hand, Hill and Jackson

Gerald Hand, who was convicted for the murders of 58-year-old Jill Hand and 55-year-old Walter Welch in 2003, was scheduled to be executed on June 17, 2026. The new date of execution has been moved to April 18, 2029.

Danny Lee Hill, who was convicted for the murder of 12-year-old Raymond Fife in 1986, was scheduled to be executed on July 22, 2029. The new date of execution has been moved to July 18, 2029.

Cleveland R. Jackson, who was convicted for the murders of 17-year-old Leneshia Williams and 3-year-old Jayla Grant in 2002, was scheduled to be executed on July 15, 2026. The new date of execution has been moved to June 13, 2029.
