(1-27-26) Last fall the VFW hosted an essay contest for High School Students called the Voice of Democracy. Students must write and voice record their essay and submit it to their local VFW Post. The theme was “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”

Alivia Grube was the only one who submitted to the VFW Post 6515 Recovery Ohio Auxiliary and they were impressed with the essay and moved by her essay. It was submitted onto District competition where she won and has moved on to the State competition.
The national first-place winner will receives a $35,000 scholarship paid directly to the recipient’s American university, college or vocational/technical school. A complete list of other national scholarships range from $1,000-$15,000, and the first-place winner from each VFW Department (state) wins a minimum scholarship of $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip Valley Forge.
Next weekend Grube will find out is she will move onto the National competition.
