(1-21-26) Huntington County Sheriff’s is investigating the details surrounding a homicide-suicide west of Huntington after a married couple was found dead Tuesday night.

Just before 10 p.m., the Indiana State Police and Huntington County Coroner’s Office responded to a property on West Maple Grove Road in Dallas Township. Relatives of the property owner had told dispatch they hadn’t seen the couple “for some time,” but their vehicle was parked on the property, according to a press release the coroner shared Wednesday.

When deputies with the Huntington County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene – which was not the couple’s home, a man and woman were found dead on a lower-level floor.

“Evidence at the scene indicated the two had been there for some time and both had been shot.”

Based on the initial investigation, officials said Melanie R. Meyers (51) died from a gunshot wound; the coroner ruled her death a homicide.

Kenneth L. Meyers (54) also died of a gunshot wound; his death was ruled a suicide. The couple was from Huntington.

Autopsies were conducted Wednesday morning at a forensic center in Fort Wayne.

The investigation is ongoing.
